Brrr! I wrapped my arms around my self. God it’s cold here, I thought. Sure I had expected it to be cold and I had dressed appropriately because it gets freezing in mid-fall at home, but I didn’t realize I would be standing in the cold for 15 minutes waiting for a taxi to pick me up.
“Taxi??” I yelled. I’ve never hailed a taxi or been in a taxi because they’re pretty uncommon in Oregon. Just as a taxi rolled by held out my hand as if saying to “stop”! The taxi groaned to a stop and a tall gray-haired man stepped out of the driver’s side. To tell you the truth he was pretty intimidating, but he seemed nice enough.
“Hi there little lady! Do you need a ride?,” the man asked. I gulped and nodded. “Here let me take your luggage then.”
“Uhhh. Okay thanks,” I stammered as I got into the cab. The man climbed into the driver’s side.
“Where to honey?” he asked turning around to look at me.
“1139 Bradford Street, Charleston West Virginia,” I replied.
The taxi driver started the car and we were off. Off to see Bella…
